Default How long does I take you?

I am taking forever to hand quilt one 7'x7' "picnic quilt." It's the one my Mom is working on in my avatar. How long does it take you to complete a quilt? ... baby or bed size? Am I the only slowpoke?

No you are absolutely not the only slow poke. I once kept track until the last border on a hand quilted lone star, 90" square. I had almost 300 hours into it when I finally quit keeping track. The quilt pictured here: http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...p-t127559.html took me 4 years to complete. It measured approximately 78" square. On average every hand quilted quilt I made took me several years of on again off again quilting. One of the reasons I got a longarm is it took me so long to handquilt and I have too many quilts inside me that need to get made. If I handquilted all of them I'd only complete a few in my lifetime.

The quilt I sent my DGD at Christmas I began 8 years before. Quilts take as long as they are going to take. these days, with my arthritis everything takes a lot longer.

Totally depends on deadlines - if I believe I have to get something done I will get it done. That said, I had one hand-quilted queen size quilt take me 9 months, and another take me four years! I kept track of hours on only one hand-quilted quilt and it was over 300...which is why I machine-quilt now. I love the process of doing it by hand, but I just don't have the time!

If I am having fun while doing it, and not getting stressed out, then I am happy for it to take however long it takes.

I have only hand quilted ONE and it was a double wedding ring. My Hawaiian quilts are taking a long time, started several years ago. Just keep on keeping on.

I've only taken classes on hand quilting, but would imagine it would take me several years to hand quilt a bed size quilt.

Thanks, y'all! You are making me feel much better! I'd go for months and not be able to work on it. Kids have gone and I've quit work, so it's going much faster... Slow but faster!

My slow hand quilting is one of the reasons I am practicing FMQing. I once had a full size quilt on a frame that rolled from the bottom. It took me so long to get to the top border that I forgot what was quilted on the bottom border. I only hand quilt baby quilts now on my Qsnap frame.

Does it matter as long as you are having fun. I may do or start another quilt and only hand quilt at a certain time. If time is no object enjoy
