I have quite a few machines both electric and treadle powered. I've been teaching one of my grand daughters to sew, today we used my Bernina 1031(love the 1/2 speed); she needed zig zag. We were making a reversible tote bag, she got to pick fabrics from my stash. When C is sewing by herself she uses one of my 3 featherweights.
I have a Viking Sapphire 875(10" throat), 2 older Berninas, 930 and 1031. A Pfaff 1222E for when I want the built in walking foot, great for quilting or just general sewing. 4 Singer treadles & 6 heads:237,115(1914),66-1 red eye(2), 201K. A Pfaff 60 treadle and a 1917 White Rotary treadle.
The featherweights are a mere 11 pounds, so they are my travel machines for when I'm piecing quilt blocks with the 2 groups I sew with.
I use different machines for different tasks. For example when I need to zig zag a single layer of fabric, one of the Berninas does that without rolling or bunching. The Viking is mostly for quilting and really awesome buttonholes.
The treadles for when I want to watch and be able to hear the TV & plus they are relaxing to use. Some of the treadles are over 100 years old and still sew as well as the day they were made. All are quality machines that are a joy to sew with, no fancy computers and their issues to deal with. The Singers that I use and enjoy are what the Singer name stood for: a good,well made, quality machine; unlike the junk machines that carry the Singer name today.(getting off my soap box)
Just like power tools, not all of them do the same thing well. Sewing machines are my power tools.

I think i'm the only person in this thread thats only got 1 machine! Its just a beginner Janome machine, but its my pride and joy. I dont do any sewing as such other than attempting quilting so at this point I dont need anymore, plus financially I dont see the point in spending a load of money on something I wont use very often when I can put that money to good use in going on nice holidays to continental Europe hah!

Reading this I'm getting the urge to get more machines! I think I'm a bit of a light weight . I have my diva a 4 year old Bernina 830 that I do use (but not to its full potential yet I'm ashamed to say) a janome cxl607 for classes and piecing (love her) and a Janome 1600pqc on a frame. I do have an oldish brother machine (my first) my eldest Son used for a fancy dress project and its never been the same so its relegated to the attic. I love looking at the machines but my husband gives me that look and I say "only looking"

I have 12. Several sewing machines, including my Mom's White Family Rotary treadle, my first sewing machine,1 embroidery only,1 sewing/embroidery machine,3 sergers, a mechanical Brother sewing machine,and computerized Bernina,Pfaff,Brother. Every machine has it's own special thing it does better than the other. What hobby does your father enjoy? If it is woodworking, I bet he has more than one bit,one saw,etc.

I have nine machines and a serger. Two Singer treadles, one is a beautiful red eye, the other is my hubs grandmothers.
I have two featherweights that I use at quilt camp along with my 301A. I have a 99K that I love since I am Scottish and my green Canadian machine is a dream! I also have a newer Brother and a White Jean Machine.
