I have just had a phone call from a male quilter, who wants to make some Project Linus quilts, and seemed a bit surprised that I didn't think it was unusual for a man to do quilting. Seeing the most men who were in our Merchant and Royal Navy leaned how to knit and crochet whilst at sea of course I wasn't surprised, and as I told him there are some very famous Male quilters over the pond.

I did find this link which was interesting: http://manquilter.wordpress.com/2010...ilting-people/

My DH, even though he isn't a member of the board, is a quilter, and a pretty good one at that! He used to repair sewing machines, and he decided to learn to sew/quilt so that he could put the machines through all that they would be used for. His first quilt, which is a WIP, was a BOM, that was pretty advanced. He did great! It's fun to sit across the room from him and sew.

I love to quilt and it was really interesting trying to explain to all of my buddies that I do quilt. I picked the hobby up a few years ago when I found a 1911 Singer 27 in my attic. I wanted to make something with it and a quilt seemed to be the perfect thing to do.

you might refer your male quilter friend to a new book.
"Men and the Art of Quiltmaking" by Joe Cunningham. Published by The American Quilter's Society
    Also a yahoo group "QuiltGuy"
We even have all male quilting retreats, round robbins, fabric exchanges etc etc etc.
