How many quilting books is "too many"?
#71
I went thru a period of buying old quilting magazines on Ebay, at thrift stores, etc. Now, i'm trying to read thru them all, copy articles that have info or patterns I want and store them. I hadn't thought about scanning and storing electronically, but really that would make the most sense.
I also keep sewing books and am hot to buy Threads magazine archives on DVD, have been aced out twice on Ebay, I may either have to increase my bid or pay full price ($149). I hope to regain about half the invest in reselling the magazines, but who knows.
Thank you for the sites you mentioned. I have a full 200 book wish list on Paperbackswap (PBS) and you'd be surprised how often quilting books come up. I know most of the ones I put up usually go with a couple of days of posting.

I spent most of my time with my grandparents cause my mother worked 2 jobs. When I got ready to spend part of my allowance on books, drawing paper, charcoal pencils, anything ,pastels, my grandpa(he'd usually take me while grandma got groceries) always refused to let me buy them. He would pay for them.He told me,"anything that educates your mind and spreads your talents,I'll take care of" and then encourage me to pick out some more.
What a wise and wonderful grandfather! You are so lucky! We are new grandparents and will remember this as we spend time with our sweet litle Gabrielle.[/quot
Thank you. Everytime I pick up a sketch pad and pastels or a book to settle down beside the fireplace,I think of him and the wonderful ways he would encourage my brain to explore and learn and my grandmother for all the quilting lessons she gave me. It wasn't just me though. They treated all their grandchildren the same. They were really wonderful grandparents.

If having the books and magazines means I'm an addict, then put me at the top of the list. I know that if i just made one quilt from each one of them I would have to live at least a hundred years longer. I have a niece who is the same way and I often will buy them for her when I'm out somewhere and see them. It must be a genetic thing.

My granddaughter will get a notebook of patterns or quilt book to look at instead of watching cartoons if there's nothing good on the Discovery channels. Sammi likes helping me pick out a pattern to make.

You can never have too many books! I use mine for inspiration. When I'm really stuck, I just page through them and let the images percolate through my brain. Sometimes I have an AHA! idea that has nothing at all to do with the book I'm looking for. It's an imagination portal for me.

[quote=leaha]MY rule, if it has any thing to do with quilting or sewing and I like it and I have the money for it, I get it! I don't have to justify why, I wanted it and I like having it.
I totally agree with this philosphy even if my dh thinks I'm crazy!
