I did, must have been ten. Little yellow gingham stuffed animal. First project.
the bobbin had to be wound for me first. It was a long bullet like holder dropped in the top of the sewing base.
Have no clue where that wonderful machine ended. Did not move with us to our new home.
Fun to remember, thanks for the post!

My mother would not let me and my sisters touch her electric Kenmore machine. When I was 7, she got a singer treadle at an auction for $3.00. I made my first skirt, with a waistband, then lots of barbie clothes. She never let us touch her Kenmore, but when she wanted to use the treadle for what ever reason, we had to give way. I don't know what happened to that Kenmore, but my sister still has the treadle. We drew straws.

Mother never had an electric machine. I still have the first machine, my sister has the second one, and both sew great!

In 7th grade I took home economics(do they even call it that anymore?). We learned to sew on treadle machines first and then after we finished our apron, moved to the "new electric" machines lol. We didnt own a sewing machine so it was all new to me.
