How many of you

Same here, I have taken one class about a year ago. (it was a gift from a friend. She thought it would be fun )She had been quilting for a couple of years me over 40 . It was not fun the instructor had no idea what she was doing. Was telling every one how to cut fabric, and most of the ladies listened and ran out of fabric.

In the beginning, learned from watching grandma & aunts, but didn't start seriously quilting until the 70's when I faithfully watched & learned from Georgia Bonesteel on PBS.Bought all her books & copied her quilts. My sister and I go to almost any class/workshop we find & we call ourselves the "Classie Dames" because when there's a workshop, we're there! Can't really say we always learned but the fellowship among quilters is beautiful. Am so glad I found this board. The creativity & enthusiasm are absolutely awesome!

I'm basically self-taught. I made a baby quilt without any lessons and was so pleased with how it came out. I took a one-day workshop several years later and made a beautiful Quilt-in-a-Day quilt for my daughter. I've been hooked ever since.

Self taught. I saw an episode of Sewing with Nancy on PBS and thought I can do that and I guess you could say a quilter was born. I ordered her Quilting with Confidence book and DVD and went and bought tools, pattern and fabric and went from there. Now if I need help with something I either come here or Google it. Gotta love the internet!

Mostly self taught. I did take a beginner's course over 30 years ago from a small fabric shop in my old neighborhood. Since then, I get a lot from TV and the internet.
There is so much out there if you look for it.

I've sewn since early High school, done the crafter route. First quilt in 85 Double Wedding Ring-all hand sewn then hand quilted it...it still sets with the binding not on it..then did no sewing for several yrs. back in mid-2000 I joined a group of quilters on the internet and have quilted ever since...Have lots of books for reference and get 2 quilt mags but never attended a class.I love doing hand work so I guess it comes pretty natural to me..Hand Applique being one of my favorites right now.
