When you go into a fabric shop and see a piece of fabric that you just have to have, but don't know what you will do with it, how much yardage do you buy??

If it is a partial bolt I would get all of it. mostly it will be 2-4 yards.

My MIL told me when in doubt buy 3 yds. That was fine at $3 - $4 per yd, But now with the prices at $10. plus a yds I just can't do that. So I get 1 yd.

I was just thinking that too. I have lots of really nice fabric that is only 1 yard long. If it is on sale or in the clearance room, I will get 2 yards

I have started buying 2-3 yards...especially if the price is right. Prefer to stay under $7.00 per yard.

depends on scale and what it is. Civil war, big scale, enough for a backing...
small, Civil war shirting, fat qtr or up to 1 yd.
Novelty, fat qtr or up to 1 yd
    panel~ 1 to 2
Mostly if it is a "timeless" type , like Civil War or reproduction, which will ALWAYS be around and in style, and I love it, I buy lots.
If it is a flash in the pan, less is more...

It depends on what it is. If it's something I'd probably use as a background fabric, then 3-5 yards. If it's a large scale print, 2-3 yards. Otherwise, usually 1/2 yard.

If I think about the fact that my stash is quite healthy as it is, and decide to walk away but I can't stop thinking about it, then I go back and get 2 yards!
