The only quilt shop in our town sells middle of the line fabric for anywhere between $7.99 to $10.99

I recently wanted to buy some fabrics from Robert Kaufman's, and local stores don't carry much variety, so I went to the web site, and found I would have to open an account, and a minimum order was $2000....that's definitely not in my budget! As with others, I watch for sales and coupons...but rarely will buy much over $5.00 a yard. Since crazy quilters don't need full yards of any one fabric, I will buy a quarter of a yard at a time...then it's not so high!http://www.flickr.com/photos/52086995@N00/

I buy the majority of my fabric online and stay with $5 to $7 a yard. If there is a designed that I really love and if I can get it for under $10 a yard then sometimes I'll splurge. Just had a wonderful time on fabric.com this morning at their sale, $3.95 to $4.95 and that included Michael Miller and Riley Blake, two of my favorites. It has to be a something I just can't live without to pay over $10 a yard for. My big splurge last month was a panel by Michael Miller that I've searched high and low for and finally found at an Australian site. I paid $18.25 for the panel, that hurt. The design came out in November and I searched everywhere. I love Austalia and the shop is terrific, but it hurt to pay that much for something that was by an American designer and not be able to purchase it here. I have found some terrific items on Ebay from Canadian folks. Much success with your new venture.

I agree with Frugalfabrics on med quality fabric. There are 3 quilt shops within 15 mile radius of my house. Most fabric there is $9.99 or $10.99 a yr. I try to buy online (connectingthreads.com), fabric is quite reasonable, & really quality stuff.

This is about what I paid this morning - $8.50 - 10.50 a yard at LQS. It's more at some of the other shops.

And while typing this I see an ad directly above me that advertise $5.96/yard at Batik Paradise by Connecting Threads.... must check that out!!

I found some good buys today at Walmart. It is good quilt quality fabric for 2.97 clearance and 4.97 for other. I asked about the fabric dept closing and was told that it would not close here because it is a million dollar dept.
I'm really excited about that as the only other nearly reasonable shop here is Hancocks. The LQS are very high in price for a retired gal.

I go to a LQS, her prices are 10.95 and up, shes expensive, ther are JoAnns around me, so I chek her out first. I got a great buy on Insulbrite at Hobby Lobby, most places want anywhere from 4.99 and up. Hobby Lobby sells it for 2.47 but with the coupon 40% off, so I ordered two bolts and paid 60.00. I guess i will do that with fabric.

I looked at some at JoAnn's last week that was on sale for $12.99/yard. Totally ridiculous. I can hardly wait for garage sale season to start!
