I do all the maint. on my older machines. I took them apart and learned that machine maint. isn't hard at all. Once you get the housing off, all you have to do is clean and oil to your satisfaction. Of course I won't do my computerized machine myself. That goes to the shop. Last visit cost me $60 and an hour's drive.

WOW!! No wonder I've always done it myself.

yowza! mine is going to have to wait awhile then! And maybe I will get my Grandmother's old straight stitch out and get it back up and running to use most of the time. It I know I can take care of!

I paid $80 bucks when I got my Pfaff serviced. But then I've had the machine 10 years and never had it done before. I just use thread that isn't too linty and keep as much lint as possible cleaned out of it. My machine only needs a single drop of oil on the bobbin race once every couple of months. Otherwise there aren't any places for the owner to oil it.

I understand that if you use it often, it doesn't need as much maintenance. I usually clean it myself only when it's running rough...lol

It may seem like a lot, but is still cheaper than having to buy a new machine.
