    Good info! I have not used flannel either yet, but want to. I think before I do though I will wash it several times because I know I have seen flannel jammies shrink more and more over the course of a few washings.

    I did not wash the ones I made and they came out fine.

    I just pre wash everything in the hottest water and hottest dryer. I will hold it up and sometimes you can just pick it up to see the quality. I will pay more for flannel. It will take more use than others. I can also tell by throwing into a hot dryer how long it will last. More lint means more pilling and shrinkage. I've found by using a coupon on the better flannel is better than getting some of the other flannel that is already on sale.

    No, not as long as you stitch the X through each square. This ties the layers together and makes them "act as one" with shrinkage.
