    Dear Quilters,
How many yards of fabric will be needed for the back of a quilt 80" x 67" ..The back fabric is 36" x 42" ..so far have come up with several different amounts...I think 6 yards sounds reasonable but am not sure ..thank you for your help..yetta

My yardage calculator came up with 6 1/4 so that seems right. I think it is generous and sometimes when I calculate it myself I come up with less'

Twice the length plus abut 6" if you are going to piece vertically

The width, plus about 6" if you are using wide fabric 90" or wider.

...and if you piece vertically be sure and cut off the selvedge as it will shrink more than the body of the fabric

If you ever get into a spot, and you are short on your backing, you can always put a strip of blocks in between your backing pieces too!
