I usually buy at least 2 yards but lately keep saying I need to do more sewing less buying.

I usually buy fat quarters. But if it's a fabric I cannot live without, I buy one yard/meter. If it's perfect for a border, 2 yards/meters, and if it's the right quality for backing, 5 to 8 yards/meters. I do confess to be a fabricaholic!!

About a metre if I think it will be the main focus. Smaller amounts can then e added to blend in.

I usually buy 2 1/2 yds just so I know I'll have enough.

I purchase 2-3 metres-I love scrappy quilts too-so leftover fabric is a blessing!

I will usually buy 3 yards if it is on sale and I love it. Otherwise, I will consider what I might want to use it for: border, background or blocks and buy accordingly.

I usually buy 1 yard cuts. I make scrappy quilts so this works great adding to my stash a little at a time.
If I really, really like it and it would be versatile enough to use for borders, I may buy 2 yards.
I think it mainly depends on the type of quilts you make. Crib, lap, bedsize, scrappy, etc.

Depends on how much I love it -- and how cheaply I can get it with coupons! Sometimes 2 yards, sometimes the whole bolt. Yes, I have waaaay too much fabric.

I try for a combination of prints or solids that coordinate and total 7 yards for a top, or one single 7 yard piece for a back. Actually if I like the fabric, and finances permit, I will buy 2 yards of anything and everything.

If it's a good backing fabric I usually buy 4-5 yds. I can always add the leftovers to my stash. If I just like it 1-2 yds. If I haven't spent a fortune that month 2-3 yds. If a white on white or ecru filler as much as I can afford at that particular time. My husband is always on my case to use what I have. He just doesn't get it. lol
