I have a fabric piece from 1850 that I was going to use to finish a quilt top from the same era but can't make myself cut into it.

My oldest fabric came from both of my grandmothers. So that would be 80-90 years old. Both of my grandmothers quilted but by the time I was old enough neither of them were quilting. My oldest purchased by me fabric was when Eisenhower was elected President and I was 14 -15 (I'm 72)and I bought flannel with Red and White stripes and Green and White strips to make flannel PJ's. I pulled my mother's singer out in the LR in front of the TV to watch the election and make the PJ'S. I wore the PJ'S all though nurse's training and long after and to this day I still have scraps of that fabrics in my stash so it would be about 57 years old.

I have fabric that my grandfather got from a dress factory. They made Princes Peggy house dresses. He would pick up the scraps around the cut out pieces. I found these after my aunts passed on. This was in the late 30's early 40's. I have made several quilts using some of the material. I am working now on another quilt using only this old material. I think I will try to hand quilt it but that could take years. We'll see.

I have some fabric from my mom's stash...she wasn't a quilter but she had some cotton fabric...so most of it is 20-40 years old. I also "inherited" some fabric and hand-embroidered quilt blocks from my DH's aunt (an occasional quilter) after she went into a nursing home. She was still doing handwork up until about five years ago, but some of her stash is from the 1940s.

no where near as aged as some of these.... my first bought 80's, but some printed poly for blouses sure came fron the 70's.... the orange, and greens give it away. Cool looking.

I still have some of the fabric from a cape I made when I was a senior in high school 1963. A lovely cream brocade.

i have some "skinner's satin" that was my grandmother's--i suspect that it's around a century old. my mom was born in 1917, and she remembered it being around as long as she had been. it has the identifying "skinner's satin" woven into the selvedge. i keep it with an old advert from the skinner's satin company.

WOW! What a great site. Lots of work went into this research and it is so interesting. Thanks for sharing the info with the rest of us.
