Ok I know we all buy fabric that we are not sure what pattern we are going to use so my question is..... How can I pick a pattern for my material and not material for my pattern, lol
Well yesterday I bought some fabric(shouldn't have  ) i got one yard cut and matched it with aniother 1 1/2yd cut so what can I do with only this much material??
any suggestions??

I seldom buy big yardages except for barkcloth, my personal downfall. (Hello, my name is maggie....) But if you have 2 1/2 yards, that's a great background for a scrappy quilt- use that fabric to give it some foundation and just add other colors. I sometimes like all scrappy, but at other times, I do scrappy and a base fabric which looks a little more organized.

Maybe look at some fat quarter friendly patterns for inspiration. Perhaps you could adapt a two color type pattern by adding a coordinating third color that will make up the yardage difference. (Hope I said that clear enough).
How big of a project did you want to make?

I would check on quilterscache.com for a two-color block and figure out how much fabric each block takes. THen figure out how many blocks your fabric yields. It should be a count that makes sense - either square 5x5, 6x6, etc. or a rectangle 5x7 6x8 (I prefer odd numbers for some strange reason).

good suggestions,
Quiltluvr-I was thinking I could maybe get atleast a lap size out of it. i was also thinking of adding borders later of another fabric.
Mad- good idea! I didn't think of just picking out a 2 color block and using that, I will have to look and see what I can find.
