Your quilt is so cute and looks well made. Isn't this supposed to be fun, though? If your guild challenge is that strict, I wouldn't want to be involved. I would think that they would want people to participate, not be afraid and worried.

We just had a guild challenge that had a size restriction. None of the wallhangings were measured or disqualified.

If the size requirements is exactly 22x18 then yours doesn't meet the rules. If it says no bigger than 22x18 you could be in the ball-park if you pinned your doll up so she makes a hand-stand.

I love this idea as a solution. This would solve the 22" part. I find it hard to believe that 1/2" the other way would disqualify you. How can one possibly get something to be that exact after laundering and such. One could have a 1/2" variability just in the way a measuring tape is held as something is hanging up (ie is it held tightly across, straight across, from the very outside thread to the very outside thread, how flat the binding is held when measuring etc).

Have the doll hanging on for dear life from the top and go with it! The question now is she hanging on so she doesn't fall or is she climbing up to go over the top??

Unless you're entering a juried show like AQS, I would enter it anyway. It is cute and different, and quilting does shrink tops when they are completely finished. Go for it! The worst they can do is disqualify you.

I know from what I have read from others comments on competitions that binding are super important, for major competitions they do take tape measures to it

I can't say for sure how strict they will be with the size. They really should have given you a range. My guess is that they will be reasonable and as long as you are close it should be ok.
