I learned to sew on a treadle; my father eventually took it to the dump after keeping two drawers to nail to the wall of the garage to put tools in. I do have the two drawers now and treasure them; they have been cleaned up and will go on the wall in my sewing room.
I do have my grandmother's treadle (cabinet only as the machine wouldn't work after it went through my house fire). That cabinet now houses my DMIL's old Brothers electric machine which she purchased used in 1955.
I recently purchased a Singer base with a beautifully-made top; however, someone had painted the frame white (terrible). I intend to have it redone and a new top made to fit my new Viking-Diamond machine with embroidery arm. Am very excited to do this.

They make great little tables. See them often at flea markets/antique shops.

If you like it, buy it. If someone says you are weird, be proud! I have been called worse...
