someone recently showed a pic on here of one that had a top made from rulers/yardsticks and the legs were from a treadle.
    It was beautiful.

I have a table at the far end of my dining room made out of the metal legs/treadle parts with an old board on top. I put it together almost 30 years ago and have had more compliments on it than anything else in our home. People just love it. It sometimes has a carved wooden lamp on it, sometimes a small Christmas tree., and other times I decorate it with other things.
Another item we get lots of compliments on is our coffee table. It's the wooden part of an old treadle. No I didn't dismantle the two pieces. My husband bought the wooden top for $5.00 years ago at a garage sale. The metal treadle legs were all that was left of my great grandmother's treadle machine after my father took it out of the attic and dumped it out back of the barn without my mothers's knowledge. I salvaged it years later for my end table.
So go for it if you want, you won't be the first person to have done it.

I have two. They each have a granite top but, once I get moved, I will combine them with a larger top for a dining room table.

I think it would be fine to make whatever you want out of it. Not weird at all.

My dad did that once and I liked it so much he found the "feet" for me. They are still in my cellar. Maybe someday!
