how weird would it be?

You just described my sewing table is.... the iron base of an old treadle (with treadle removed) with a white and red enamel top..... I spotted it at a flea market and paid $50 for it, and before I could get it back to my car I had several women offer me twice what I paid for it, but I just smiled politely and said sorry, she's coming home with me.

You betcha! When my grandmother closed down her home, my uncle was going to pitch one because he saw it as junk. I grabbed it, my husband made a top for it,and painted it white. It now sits on my front porch to put my plants on it in the summer...along with a glass of tea!

Years ago I found the bottom of a treadle machine, no cabinet. I took it home sanded it down, painted it, purchased a glass top and it has been a 'table' in my house ever since. I have gotten so many compliments on it over the years.
