    Default how/when do I attach yo-yo's?

I am using fabric yo-yo's for the center of flower blocks on a lap sized quilt. I will be quilting this myself on my Juki TL2010Q. What is the best way to attach them and when do I attach? Hand sew them? Machine sew them? Before or after quilting?

    Thanks

It all depends on what quilting pattern you are using. If you are using a large meander you can attach the yo-yos first and quilt around them. If you are doing a grid and will have quilting under the area where the yo-yos go, then you should quilt first. I would hand stitch them because machine stitch will show on the back and may take away from your quilting design.

Oops, forgot the quilting info...I plan to do FMQ in a petal pattern around the edges of the flower petals and maybe a leafy vine in the sashings. It would not be meandering/stippling. Similar to this picture that I found on google. The blocks are shaped a little differently, but I can still do a similar quilting pattern.

Can the yo-yos be atached by machine before sandwiching?

I would quilt first and use the bar tack function on my machine to attach the Yo Yos when the quilt is finished. That way your Yo Yos won't get all wrinkled and how do you iron wrinkled Yo Yos anyhow?
