King's Daughter

Sorry, no pics. Friend of mine purchased quilt top at auction. It's pretty large, very heavy, made out of rectangles of heavy fabrics, including corduroy, upholstery, wools, tapestries, etc. Rectangles are between 4-1/2 & 5-1/2" wide by 7-8" long. Backs of some of the fabrics say Arcadia. She won't be doing this herself (I won't be doing it either!) but she was given name of a woman who does quilting. She pictures herself curling up under it in front of the fire, but it's not at all cuddly...very scratchy and heavy. What would be appropriate to back it with, and what kind of batting, if any? Also, how would you quilt it, or maybe just tie it? Thanks everyone!

Backings could be:

Wool from old suits, flannels like men's shirts are made out of, muslin, corduroy

If it's heavy, just tie it.

I would use a cotton flannel sheet and just tie it.

Cotton flannel. no batting. maybe tied, but I think quilted.

I would back it with fabric of a weight similar to one that is in the top...probably corduroy or wool. Flannel just seems too light for something like you describe, imho, and corduroy is just as cuddly. No batting or else use the flannel there to soften the backside of the seams making it more comfortable to curl up under. I would also tie it, maybe adding some embroidery or just use fly stitch to do the tying.

Make sure she takes a photo before starts doing anything.
Maybe just use a flannel sheet and again like the others just tie it up, but do close, no less thank 6 inches.
