This is my first 9-patch. How do I hand quilt it--quilt around each 2" square, quilt every other square or something else. HELP

My grandma and mother would quilt around each piece a ¼" from the seam line. You could also do an X in each square or get a template and quilt a fan or other design. The fun of it is all the options. Be sure to let us know what you choose.

    Who is it for?
How about a heart large enough to fit about 1/2" within the edges of the 9 patch?

I'm thinking about putting an X on the 9-patch squares and an O on the plain squares since the 9-patch reminds me of tic-tac-toe. How does that sound?

I've seen one quilted with basically a backwards "L" in each of the blocks in the 9-patch (looks a little like a lightening bolt). I've got one 9 patch ready to quilt, and that's how I think I'm going to do it.

Cross hatch is when you sew diagional lines across the block in each direction.
