I am in need of some advice. My DH wanted a quilt for his chair so i made a bow tie quilt. He said he wanted it tied and not quilted. Well it is tied and now he is not liking all the 'white worms' all over the quilt.
I used a soft white yarn. What do you all use to tie your quilts with? Has anyone tied on their machine?
    Thanks for your help.

I tied my first one yesterday and I have a new appreciation for the lost art of tying. It was a duplicated quilt that my deceased MIL made in '72. I do not think you could ever do one with a machine but what I did with mine was to SITD and then tie the rows.

I like the look to be honest with you but after I duplicate the original 3 times I do not think I will tie one again.

Post a few photos of your quilt, I am sure that there are a few folks here that can help you in making your hubby happy!!

You can also bar tack with your sewing machine instead of tying. It makes for a softer look and you don't have those tails to worry about.

I have tied with embroidery thread using all three strands, clipping fairly short. The thread will fray out and kind of curl up so you won't get the worms.

I use DMC embroidery thread, tie a surgeons knot, cut short, but only on doll quilts so far no large quilts.

I've used perle cotton to tie quilts but you could use button hole thread or any coarse thread that wouldn't look cutesy to DH.

I use embroidery floss or crochet thread. My big elna has a lock stitch where I could "tie" on it, but I don't like the big knot on the backing.

Search "turkey tracks" in the Search Box above. One of the members did a tutorial on how to tie quilts this way. I have done a couple and I love how it looks and it finishes flat (you don't have a know anywhere). Check it out and let us know if you do it and how your hubby liked it.

I use embroidery floss. I personally don't like the look of yarn. I usually use 3 strands.
