I do my own. I don't have the money to have someone else quilt them. I feel that they are all mine if I quilt them. Besided, I would rather spend the money on more fabric.

I quilt them myself. I feel that if I put all the work into making a quilt I need to do the quilting myself for it to really feel like my quilt. Right now I am working on a quilt for my daughter and I bought the thicker batt and that is a real problem when trying to fit it thru the opening in my machine. No more thick batting for me. With the reg. batt I have no trouble.

I've been buying the bamboo batting. It's really nice, not thick and is warm.

I quilt my own as then I consider it to be my quilt. I can make the decisions as to what I quilt where and have no-one else to 'blame' for mistakes or successes. It also improves my skill set with all the practice that I get.

Yes, the first quilt that I ever did (completely by hand), I made the mistake of thick wadding...it dampened my enthusiasm for hand quilting and put me off thick wadding forever.

The reason I have a stack of finished and sandwiched tops is that I can't afford to send them out and have few skills in machine quilting.

I used to do my own on a regular machine. I couldn't bear to part with the longarm fee. I finally researched for two years and watched for a used longarm. I got a used Hinterberg Voyager 17 on a Stretch frame. It is the BEST thing I ever did. Very cost effective. Hinterberg recently merged with Nolting now but I highly recommend to buy from Dekk't Out Quilting in Ohio. Customer service from Steve Dekker is awesome and I didn't even get my machine from him but I would if I upgrade.

I do my own. Where I live, you can pay upwards of $125 to $150 or higher for a LA-er to do a bed-sized quilt, and that doesn't include them doing the binding (plus you provide your own batting). I just can't afford to have them done at these prices. On the plus side, with as many as I make, I am getting better at doing it myself!!
