I live in Canada as well and I haven't been able to find a dry iron. In fact I couldn't even find an iron that didn't have the auto shut-off. My old iron wasn't getting hot enough any longer so finally just bought one from Walmart with the auto shut-off. The one I bought takes about 15 minutes of not being moved and it will beep to signal it's going to shut off, I have my ironing board behind me so I just give it a quick movement to keep it hot.

The old style irons are the best - I was just given two very old flat irons with cords in excellent shape -( the cord is often the part that goes). Westinghouse, General Electric are both good names to watch for.
