On November 5th I placed an order with Connecting Threads for $128.00-I qualified for free shipping!! One of the items that I wanted to order would not be available until later in the month so that item was "saved for later" by their website.

On Nov 10th I got an email from them saying that my item was now available. When I placed it in my shopping cart it wanted to charge me $3.95 shipping. I typed a note in the customer comment box stating that this item was backordered from my original order # which qualified for free shipping and if they were going to charge me shipping now to just cancel the order.

Today I received my item in the mail with a note on the invoice that states "Sorry for any misunderstanding. This item is NOT backordered from your previous order. If it was, we would have automatically shipped it to you when it came in. Items in your Saved for Later are not backordered. We'll waive shipping this time, but note that future orders will incur shipping."

Their shipping policy states "Backorders will not be charged additional shipping" and their "Backorders" page states "Any item that is listed on your order as a backorder will be shipped as soon as it becomes available in our warehouse by standard shipping. Items that are listed on the website as "Available (date)" can be placed in your "Save for Later" and we will notify you by email when this item is available for purchase. Many of the items we list as "Save for Later" and not backordered is due to the inability to confirm the exact day the item will be available in our warehouse. We strive to provide the most accurate arrival dates for items that are out of stock and work hard to have over 99% of our stock available at all times."

Nowhere does it say that additional shipping charges will apply.

Don't get me wrong----I really like Connecting Threads. I like their fabrics, threads, etc. I order from them often. I just do not think this is a smart way for a company to treat their customers.

Sorry for the rant---I needed to get this off my chest and you were my audience!!!
    :D

    I don't like that they don't ship international :)

It was good that they waived their shipping though.

Unfortunately this is getting way to common with the economy tanking on us.

A few vendors that I use all of the time have "changed" their policy on returns and shipping. Usually a phone call will fix the issue but sometimes you just have to go somewhere else for what ever you were buying.

There are tons of quilting/sewing suppliers out there and they are all wanting your business.

Seems to me like that would be fair if YOU were the one who "saved for later"...since you said THEY did that on your order...they shouldn't ever charge in that situation.

I haven't run into that with them...yet, but now I'll be watching for it.

BTW...whadja' order???? I ordered that new camdem table topper...it came yesterday..I love it! Now to find the time to make it!

I love Connecting Threads - alot of the reason - their fabric is American made - BUT I, too, had a shipping issue with them. I had a gift certificate for $40. I spent $52 (or so) and could not use the certificate online and finish paying with my debit card - they would not let me... said I HAVE to call them - so I did... then they tried to charge me 10.00 for shipping - my order was over $50 - I had tried to order online and due to THEIR website I could not... they waived the fee 'this time' - -- it's not my fault I could not do it and should not be penalized for that... next time I guess I'll just order less??? It's very frustrating - and the person on the phone was not all that polite... sad.

So far I've never had a problem with any order from them. I'm sure problems come up. I'll do what I do with any place of business, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt once but a second time, my money goes somewhere else.

i think it's become common practice for businesses of all kinds to cruise on their previous reputations. lots of stores around here don't give the perks they used to unless you remember to ask for them. they used to do that automatically. now that they got you into the habit of using them, you have to look out for yourself. i recently got a coupon for ihop for $9.99 off one dinner. yay, right? my husband got one, too. double yay. when we went to pay, they said we could only use one. nowhere on the coupon did it say that. but nowhere! when we pointed that out, the woman at the desk got very snotty, like we printed those coupons in our basement. the manager finally gave us the discount because people had started listening. are we going back? suuure we are. when managers fly

edit: she said we could only use 'one offer per table'. it didn't say that on the coupon anywhere.

The cotton is grown in USA but is manufactured in Canada. Correct me if I am wrong.
