    You handled the situation perfectly.

Would depend on whether it was a true friend or just an acquaintance.

Sewed clothes for years for myself and my kids. Those days are gone. We do what we are motivated to do. I love the creativity and satisfaction that comes with all aspects of quilting, I have pants I wear that need the button sewn on, haven't taken the time. I love to quilt.

I help other people as my time allows. I enjoy sewing of all kinds so mending isn't really a chore for me (unless I am in the middle of a quilt). I also think helping others is a great way for me to express my gratitude for God giving the the ability to do something I enjoy so much.

I've had a coworker try to get me to hem her pants. I told her she didn't want me to do it. I believe I said something along the lines of "my grandmother told me to just take her my pants that I want hemmed cause I do such a horrible job of it and it pains her to see it."

Then told her my grandmother would but she charges.

I never heard another word about hemming. She did ask me to make her some massage face cradle covers but asked a quote and said she'd be ok with paying.... she hasn't brought me the fabric yet...

I don't do alterations ... at least not for less than $1,000,000 per item.

I have this problem, too. I've been asked to "alter" clothes - and always say "no, I don't do alterations very well." I have sewed on patches and hemmed pants for the fire company but that's about it.

I have done my share of mending in my time but mostly don't care to do it. When I heard my husband offering for me to do any sewing for my adult family we had to have a talk!
