    Throat space is the space that extends right from the needle to the body of your machine. The more throat space you have the more quilt you can stuff in there while quilting! It allows you to quilt with more ease, and hopefully larger quilts. :)

    I have 2 of these same ones...two toned...and lots of the attachments...I really bought them because of the bobbin cases...and also the throat plates...they are also compatible with the 221..not the attachments though...they are a slant shank...apparently I real that this machine is one of the best for free motion quilting..I haven't tried it for that as I don't have the foot but I am tempted to get it...you are so lucky...and there is a no. on the bottom which tells you the date it was born...
    YES!!! I am THRILLED for that! Did you notice all the bobbins there that came with this machine too? I know they aren't as expensive as the bobbin case but still, I was prepared to buy some from Ebay because I only have one for my 221.

    mine came from the singer store in Glendale California in June of 1957 my Father bought it for me as a graduation gift
