I entered my query in another section on the 301, am wanting to know where to get the proper slant presser foot for free motion that works the best as I am just sewing quilt blocks but want to learn to do free motion and need advice on using the 301. Please share any input about how to get started. My mom's machine has a knee pedal, so I'm wondering if that would work for free motion?

My slant needle singer 301A, free motion foot came from a local sewing machine and vaccume(ugh)cleaner shop, it is made of lucite and is easy to see thru and around when FMQ.....i would think the knee pedal would be great to control and you could even put a block behind it so full bore would be the right speed
the only tips are be sure the presser foot lever is down, bring the bobbin thread to the top, sink the needle into the correct spot for the first stitch and hold onto the threads for the first few stitches.
Be sure you follow the instructions for lowering the feed dogs and setting the stitch length at neutral(half way between forward and reverse) :D :D :D :D :D

Pumpkin , Thrilled to see your post! I have TWO 301's to piece quilts on and they are devine! One is 301 A the portable, and the other 301 is in a nice cabinet. I take the portable everywhere and you will love it. My best friend has one too, and we piece together as often as we can.

I machine quilt on my old Kenmore, but wouldn't hesitate to try it on the Singers if in future I need to. Your 301 will sew upholstery, Levi's anything you want! You are gonna love it, keep it oiled, and also buy the singer grease( lube) tube for this model and it will run forever! Marsha
