If you're just learning to meander, does it help to do it through tissue paper? I want to learn and could use some tips just starting out. I know the main thing is PRACTICE but what else????

I did mine on a regular machine with a regular foot. You do have to adjust your pressure and stitches and only trying will get the right ones.

Good for you. Babies fall down & get back up & go again.

I started with templates to mark (very dark) - starfish were the easiest because staying on the line wasn't so important, then tissue paper to sew though - a pain to pick out. Lots of practice sandwiches for meandering and some loopy freeform. I was scared to try it on something "important" but I did and I'm tickled to death! I go very slow and have definitely found it easier to come forward than to go backwards. Setting the tension is still a puzzle - it seems to change as I quilt and stay that way until I reset it - is that normal? (meaning it's not just around the curves that give me problems.)

Congrats! The more you practice the more chances you take in other meandering designs
