The kind of sewing machine you use can make a difference. I have a fancy Janome and bought a used Bernina because I kept getting "whiskers" on the backside when going around curves. Someone said it has to do with the front loading bobbin system vs the top loading bobbin system. So if you're getting whiskers, it's not necessarily you, it could be the machine. The Bernina has no difficulty at all and NO whiskers!
