You could use a printed purple & that probably would not show through the front. It's the dyed fabrics (solids & batiks) that tend to show through since they are saturated with dye front & back.

Thank you for the info, Bree!

Here are some selections online. The last two are probably too dark, but I like them.

Are you sure that last one's a batik? It kinda looks like a print fabric that I have. They do make imitation batiks that are just a printed replica of a batik design. If that's the case, it should be fine. If it were me, I'd pick either #2 or #5. But if you really love that purple, perhaps you could check with the merchant to see if it's truly a batik or if it's a faux-batik print.

What an unusual design featuring focus fabrics. I love the first quilting design.

I took a close up picture to put beside the two choices for backing.

Which one do you like best?

I agree--stay away from Minge (sp?) as it is difficult to manage it. I would choose a lighter backing and I like your idea of the "open" quilting. I like to see not a lot of quilting on tops.

Since your fabric is heavy, choose a light weight fabric for the backing, and a light color so it does not show through. A silk batting is a great idea to reduce the weight of the quilt. Many users object to the weight of a heavy quilt, even in cold climates. It sure is a beauty, though.
