I am so excited! My mother couldn't seem to depart with my dad's ties and asked me to make a crazy quilt with them! There are 40 ties. I have actually decided to make 4 smaller wall-hanging quilts (and/or pillows), for me, my sisters, and one for my mom. Anything-but-cotton is really branching into new territory for me, and any hints you could offer would be greatly appreciated. I have done a lot of research, and ordered a book (aptly named "Daddy's Ties), but you folks are the best resource ever. Help! I will keep you posted and probably ask dozens of questions along the way.

What a wonderful idea. Can't wait to see how they turn out.

I opened the ties and sewed one in one direction to another with the point going the other way. I used more ties to sash down the middle of the quilt and the another row of ties on the other side. I sashed around the quilt with more ties. I added my batting and I backed it with a corduroy. I hand tied it.
With the left over ties and pieces I crazy quilted it to muslin. I made two duffle type bags out of it and numerous pocket books. It was fun. My FIL had some crazy looking ties. 8-)
