GrannieAnnie, I purchased the fabric at a quilt shop in Branson, Missouri. I have seen it at many of our LQS.

I remember Dick and Jane - yes and "See Spot Run, Run Spot run, Run, run, run. Run must have been the word for the day. I did find a Dick and Jane book at a garage sale and bought it right away. So I still have a Dick and Jane book. The grandkids thought it was a hoot!!!! Our little neighbor boy turned three in June and can count to twenty in French and ten in German (he's just learning German) and of course, his English is impecable. No use to read him Dick and Jane!!!!! The kids are so far advanced than we were. I do think we are smarter though!!!!!! Thanks for the memory! And your door hanging was so sweet. What a great way for a child to come to school! Edie

PS - I wonder what would happen if we took a week of our school days and compared them literally to today's school days.

I remember Dick, Jane and Spot. I found my 5 yr old GD level 1 and 2 Dick and Jane books. She and I read the level 1 all the time. I let her read the sight words that she knows and I read the remainder of the sentence. Need to find some new ones as I think she has these memorized now and I am not sure how many of the words she really knows and how many she just remembers.

We had Alice, Jerry and their dog, Jip. I don't remember Dick and Jane, But love the fabric and the quilt. As a former teacher, I think it's so sad that children can't read, but are pushed along anyway, getting further and further behind. The system is worried about being politically correct and losing children in all the "correctness."
