I love the Dick and Jane books and have a teaches addition and a student one besides many of the other books. I made myself a Dick and Jane purse and get many comments on it.

I sure do remember them. It was a great way to learn to read. Maybe some of those old methods were not so bad.
It seems like we did not so many reading disabilities then....maybe the teaching methods then and now???

Oh yes I remember them. The teacher had an extremely large book just like our small one and it was on an easel and we all read it from the big book. I never read much for pleasure until about the last 3 years after gettin hooked on quilting novels. I always figured I had to have something to show for my time but have decided that it is good for me to read as it is relaxing. I could live without TV except quilting shows. I now spend my time quilting and reading and once in a while cleaning and cooking. Of course I always find time for my 7 grandchildren and one due anytime now. My 9 year old twin grandson have decided that they are interested as well in sewing. They made jackets, scarves, for their guenia pigs (sp). LOL

I love them! I learned to read with them and when I began teaching first grade they were still in use. Gosh I wish I had saved some of those books when we had to turn in our old texts to receive the new basal readers! Ooops! I think I just told you how old I am! hehehe!

My first grade reading book was red and our characters were Tom, Betty, Susan, and her Bunny.

    Talking door hanging

I remember them with fondness. I taught my 3 boys from these books and they were far ahead of their class. These days there are a lot of things that children are missing out on. Thanks for the reminder. Love your door hanging.
