I hate binding

If you used a walking foot, it may be your machine. I had a lot of puckering doing machine stitched binding on my Brother. I did some doing a placemat on my Bernina and it was perfect (I used a specialty stitch - sort of a modified zig zag).

I always use a walking foot to attach the binding then sew the rest by hand. I have not had any problems doing it this way. Most of the time I do straight binding , but when in question do it with bias strips.
