I like to have my blocks either sewn to each other or to the sashing before I remove the paper. After all that work, I don't want to take the chance of distorting the blocks or removing a few stitches from the edges. Sometimes the blocks edges are on the straight of grain but sometimes they are on the bias and it's best to anchor the edges to the next piece before removing the paper and maybe stretching?

I just finished my first block and I am leaving the paper on until I have finished putting the blocks together. This way I am sure I am still on track and I won't be off on one line which, as we know, will throw off the whole thing.
Happy Stitching!
