I marked and quilted.... now to wash those marks out!
I did a sample quilting piece to see if the washable Crayola markers would come out and they did, YEAH! But, now the actual quilt is done and it's a queen size. So, I feel like there needs to be lots of soap and water to get those marks out. My washer is a standard size washer. I'm not sure there would be enough sloshing around to remove marks. What do you all think?
I thought maybe I should go to the laundramat and use one of those huge washers. The hubby is a little nervous about that. You don't know what the last wash load contained and would something wash onto my quilt?
Should I do a load of white wash to make sure the washer is okay to use and then wash the quilt? This is a special quilt for my grandson and his new wife.... a wedding quilt that they picked out.
Here's a couple of pictures of the quilt before I got it quilted.

Oh my goodness that is a beauty! I have a compact front load washer and have to take my big quilts to the laundromat. I use the oversized machine and always throw in a couple of colour catchers just to be sure. I have never experienced a problem.

That’s a beauty! If you have a top loading washer, I would put the quilt in, fill it with cold water and hand agitate with your hands until the marks disappear. Once all the marks are gone, I would spin out the water. Examine the quilt to make sure there are no marks or bleeds and then tumble until damp. Spread out on a clean sheet to dry.

I have an old standard top loader washing machine and I have not had a problem washing a queen or even a king in this machine and have not left a mark behind with marking pens. Don't be afraid to use your home machine. When in doubt I send to the dry cleaners.
