If you check with a LQS or quilt guild in the area, they may have charity quilts that need to be sewn and then you could get your sewing fix. The hard part may be that you have to give them up to the charity they choose. Best of luck.

I know the feeling too. There are alot of times that I can't buy any and then I have only been buying just a piece or two at at time that I need. Not getting any and everything that I want. And there is alot that I do want!!!!!

i just finished piecing a downy quilt for kids...gave me a fix for new fabric, and i get to do something for someone who needs it.

of course, the only color i really dislike is orange...any guesses what color the fabric that came from downy was???

but it was an inexpensive way to get a fabric fix!

I just finished a memory quilt made from men's shirts. I think I had 9 shirts of varying weights. Used the heavier shirts for the back. Took most of the nine shirts, but had 2/3 large pieces left over so I am making a dozen Mug Rugs (Mats) to go with the quilt.

I always feel like I have won 'Lotto' when I come home from my local Op shop with second hand fabrics I have bought at bargin prices, today I paid only $2 a piece,I think they are from the 70's as they are quite narrow widths. Crazy colours but what the heck I shall just have to be all the more creative with them!!

A good source of fabric is a sewing factory, upholstry shop, furniture or drapery manufacturer, etc. You may end up with fabric that is more suited to making tote bags than bed quilts, but you can get some yummy fabric when they have a sale to the public.
Another potential source of fabric is your local dry cleaners. Periodically ours will have a sale of all the unclaimed items left in their shop.

I know how you feel, with being off due to surgery money is tight and I am going into my stash and UFO's to make me feel better about not going to my LQS and spending my grocery money. Getting just bit like you did might help.

Just delivered the Memory quilt this morning along with the 12 Mug Rugs. She was amazed at what you can do with seoond hand material. She is giving it to her brother next month and kiddingly said she might not as it was so neat. She is going to keep 6 of the mug rugs. I was glad she liked it.

How do you make your mug rugs? I make them out of yarn stitched onto plastic canvas. Do you do yours differently?

I have been refolding my fabric to do some reorganizing and it is almost as good as getting new stuff. I've even found some that I forgot I had.
