Sulky makes several different kinds of stabilizers on rolls for about $18 each. Use your 40% off coupon at JoAnn's.

Which kind to use is your preference. I have the wash-away, the tearaway and the sticky backed kind. I have used the sticky backed kind most because I know for sure my fabric won't move in the hoop with that on the back. At the same time, it can be difficult to take it out of those little tiny places on the back.

If the pattern isn't to dense I use a tear away stabilizer.
If the design is very dense I use a cut away stabilizer, they are a little heavier.

There is a stabilizer known as WEBLON. It is a cut away but is very sheer and I love it! Great to use on baby things because it is very stable and is not thick like regular cutaway

I also use iron on stabaliser...I find it holds the fabric the best and then I try and remove as much excess as possible after I have done the design

If it's a baby quilt then bunnycup.com have lovely designs...I really enjoy the embroidery on my machine...it took me a while to get used to it and to produce really lovely embroideries..it is all to do with hooping...spend time and get it centred and nice and tight and you will get some lovely results.....I now finish all my quilts with a little message on the back using my embroidery machine...if I can help at all please shout...good luck
