I need help figuring this out....

I am wanting to make a quilt top using 2 different fabrics. even 3 or 4 if two of the fabrics are solids. I actually don't even know if you have to have a certain amount of fabrics to make this even, But I am willing to find out.
I want to make it a D9P. I would like the quilt to be approximately 50" x 50". Is this size even possible to do with this pattern? And if so, What size should I cut the squares up into? I have never made this pattern before, but it CAN'T BE that hard I wouldn't think.
If its not possible to make it this size the closest size that is possible would be good. I appreciate all your help. ;) Thanks.

If you are making a quilt that's 50 X 50, are you thinking it would be 5 blocks ( 10 inches each ) across and 5 blocks down? If so, I think you might want to go with a 10 1/2 inch block for the pattern you are using. Since the nine patch could then have 3 1/2 inch squares or to put it another way, you would cut them at 4 inches and they would finish at 3 1/2 inches. So, 3 /12 plus 3/1/2 plus 3 1/2 would equal 10 1/2.
