Do you mean a keyboard border? Or a border that looks like piano keys?

Your post is a little vague, it would help to know what, specifically, you're struggling with.

So you want a border like on the picture that Kitsie posted? or a border that looks like real piano keys--ebony and ivory.

If it is like the picture that Kitsie posted, it is just lengths of fabric sewn together and then trimmed to whatever width you need. Kind of like making your own striped fabric. Many people use leftover pieces from the body of the quilt. Sometimes the corners are mitered.

If it is supposed to look like a piano keyboard, I would piece a length of black with a length of white and subcut into strips for the ebony and then alternate with white strips for the ivory.

I always thought that a piano key border was made w/strips of fabric that were either 2.5" X 5" or 1' X 3". then sewn together in a row.

I don't think of a piano key border as having any restrictions on width or length. Just pick a size, and sew the strips together. I've used that type of border finishing at 1" x 5" or 6" on log cabin quilts, and recently made what I called a chunky piano key border using strips that were several inches wide. What is the problem you're having? Are you uncertain how to do the corners, or perhaps how wide to make the "keys"?

I put a piano key border on a lot of my quilts. I use up fabrics that I have used in the quilt. I usually put a narrow framing border then my piano key border. The strips of fabric can be any size you want and it is easy to adjust to fit your quilt sides. Possibly if you go on pintrest you can see many options.
