I made a quilt for my DGD she likes Ohio state. I did 5" blocks in the colors Red, White, Black and purchased a half yd of Ohio state fabric. On the Fabric the logo was larger than the 5" squares so I cut the logo out and appliqued the logo to a 10" square that I placed randomly throughout the quilt top. Since I do not know how to FMQ I just tied off on the back. The back I did in solid Gray.

when we lived just outside of Columbus, OH they were selling t-shirts that said: "Columbus, OH, orange barrel capital of the world!"
The highways are torn up about 6-9 months out of every year. When it's too cold, they stop working but they leave the barrels up and traffic is still a mess!

I made this for my brother in Ohio and it's similar to what you were looking at. I put the borders together - then added those to the main quilt middle. Worked out pretty well and didn't fight the weight of the quilt for all those narrow borders. I also found a photo on the internet to "copy" but I didn't have a particular size in mind. This one I took to a longarm quilter and was happy with it.
