To add into your budget, a rolling sewing machine tote is a big help if you don't already have one. I got mine from Amazon but Joann often has them on sale. I leave the portable in the rolling case when not using it and put a set of tools in there so I usually have everything I need other than my project.

I've had a Pfaff Passport 2 for several years and love it. But if I was looking to purchase a new travel machine I would probably look at Juki machines as well as the Passport.

Like Iceblossom I have my travel machine in a rolling tote with a pouch which holds all my sewing supplies, Sew Steady table, thread/bobbins, cleaning tools & screw drivers and my machine manual.

I love my Featherweight for travelling. I've made many quilts on her and she sews an amazing stitch. You can sometimes find them for $300.

I use my Janome 3160 QDC for classes that have been at the guild, and at the community school classes. It came with an extension table too. The dealer had a damaged tote bag that I got for it too. Has stitches I need, the speed can be changed, threads the needle. You should go out there an test drive one. Or better yet if you have a quilt show near you most likely all the brands will be there for you to try out.

I saw the new Eversewn Celine machine. It's fantastic for the price. Weighs 14 lbs has all the features and comes with ext table.
