Default I Need Some Advice For A Graduation Quilt Please

I have a grandson who will be a high school senior this coming fall. His school colors are gray and maroon. School mascot is a cardinal. His favorite colors are green, white and blue. The only sport that he likes is auto racing. He loves electronics and technology. He has been working in a greenhouse during the summer. I would some how like to tie of these things together in a graduation quilt for him.

I am open to any advice and ideas that you all can give me. Also, what would be the right size quilt to make for him. My grandson is over 6ft tall.

I have a Senior this year also. I would go with his favorite colors. It's a time to look to the future.

Thank you toverly. I just love your quote "It's a time to look to the future." I thank that I will put this on his quilt somehow. Enjoy your senior this year.

I agree. to incorporate his school, you can do that on the label by saying for his graduation from xxx high school, etc

How about favorite colors on the top and a "commemorative strip" on the back?

You might try Warm Wishes wuth the pieced blocks in his colours and in the focus block, find fabric in all of his interests.

As far as him being tall, are you looking to make it large enough for a bed, or just for him to snuggle under on the couch?

Make it big. Full or Queen at least. I think big quilts get more use, especially for a tall kid. I agree with only using his favorite colors and indicating it's for graduation on the label.

I made this USC quilt for a friend of my DH. It is just a center square (6inches finshed, I think) with a 2 inch border. (add seam allowance as needed) for a 8 inch block. The center with the logo was just double the pieced block size. I got the idea from a Quiltmaker pattern:

I changed the nine patches to the block with a border. The logo was scanned from the fabric, enlarged, traced onto WonderUnder with paper and made into a fusible applique. That quilt turned out big! Hope this gives you an idea.

    Quiltmaker inspiration quilt:
