I don't know if I can explain this right, but the weight of the design seems to need the wider border and option #2 gives it a beautiful finish. You know how some pictures just look better with a more substantial frame? Always learning on this board, thanks for posting another of your great informational nuggets Jan! I think the quilt is beautiful as is. If you have to make it bigger I think #2 is the way to do it. If you do not have to make it bigger I would leave it as it. It is an awesome quilt.
