I know it will be alot of work, but I would replace it now. I don't think fabric that thin would stand up to any quilting. Its a beautiful quilt.

That would be my recommendation, but make sure it is black.

If you can't find black batting, you can fuse black stabilizer to those areas. Get a soft stabilizer so the quilt isn't stiff.

Because your quilt is so beautiful, I believe I would bite the bullet and replace the black. You are never going to be happy with that black fabric. I dearly love your panel!

I would say use fusible interfacing and black batting. Once it is quilted no one will ever know. It is a lovely quilt. I am sure your husband will love it.

I would take it apart and replace the black. Remember, piecing is just a portion of the work involved in a quilt. I personally would always see the black and wonder why I didn't fix it before I quilted it. Also, I try to use the best quality of fabric I can afford in order to make these expressions of art last an eternity.

this should work. try putting black behind it to see the effect. it is a very nice quilt. oh just a thought--how much use is it intended for? how well will the thinner fabric hold up? that might be reason to replace it.

too bad we aren't closer. I am an EXPERT unsewer! and I would help.
