I finished this quilt top about 6-8 years ago. I would really like to get it finished for my DH but....as you can see on the third picture the black material is too thin. Why wasn't I smart enough to do something about it THEN?!!! Now what should I do? Applique more black on top of the strips and triangles? Tear it apart?

I have faith in you fine quilters out there that you will have some solution to my dilemma. You all are so helpful and supportive. I have appreciated all the positive comments on this board. Quilters seem to be an special kind of delightful people.

I would use a fusible interfacing or fusible fleece on the back of it to strenthen it. :-)

I would probably try black batting behind it and see if the seams stop showing. But then I always look for the easiest way out... LOL.

I love your quilt. I see the problem with the black. I think I remembering seeing black batting. I'm sure someone will have the perfect answer to your problem.

I too would try black batting. If that doesn't work, then I'd try black fusible. but either way, I'm sure he'll like it.

Once you get it sandwiched and quilted it will probably be okay. You won't be able to see through it. What are you going to use on the back? The thinner fabric may not stand up to as much wear and tear as the others, but I wouldn't take it out or try to applique' over it.

If it were me-- I would take it apart and replace the black fabric.. It is going to wear out faster than the others, and will have to be replaced sooner or later. it would be easier to do it sooner. I have repaired a few worn quilts and it isn't fun.

I would go with the black batting.I have done this myself with thin black material and learned the hard way

Personally! I would use black batting if I just wanted to get it done. Then go fabric shopping to make something similar! :) I love to shop. Makes a good reason to do it. Lol

is the black fabric strong?
How will the quilt be used. bed or wall
If your seams are consistent then I might consider quilting at the edge of the shadowing seams. That might take away from the difference. Also if stron, then the black batting might work fine.
Hate to think about you ripping all that work.
