I plan quilts when I'm having trouble sleeping
When I'm having trouble going to sleep I think about fabric colors and quilt patterns. Just thinking of all the things I can do with fabric seems to calm my mind and it really helps me fall asleep. I do the same thing with yarn, crochet, and knitting. Sometimes I dream about sewing and when I wake up I try to make notes on what I was making in my dream. One night I dreamed I made a circular pin cushion. So the next day I made a circular pin cushion.

I think of quilting when I am trying to go to sleep and have started keeping paper and pencil beside my bed. Writing in the dark isn't always readable in the morning but it does trigger the memory.

Lately, when I have trouble falling asleep, I imagine Bing Crosby singing "Count Your Blessings" from "White Christmas."

I've also heard Rosemary Clooney sing it, so sometimes I imagine that. Or, for variety, I think of the Pied Pipers singing "Dream (When You're Feeling Blue)."

I do the same thing when I can't sleep - usually calms me - but sometimes puts my mind in overdrive and I cannot stop thinking about quilt patterns and quilting designs. Sometimes I get really great ideas - when I wake up sometimes they work and sometimes they don't.

I am the opposite I find thinking about the colors and patterns too stimulating , and my mind starts to race with the infinite potential. I also can't select fabric from my stash for a project too close to bed time or again my mind races.
