Are you trying to do free motion quilting or just straight lines? For free motion you don't need a walking foot or worry about adjusting the stitich length. Your movement of the quilt combined with the speed of the machine determine the length. Lower the feed dogs and go. Also, instead of that heavy log role, you might try the "puddling" method instead. Those logs are way to heavy. If you want to use straight pins for basting you will need Pinmores which cover the ends and not stick you. I used curved safety pins made for basting a quilt myself. I have used minky backing many times basting with pins and have not had a problem. Please look at leah Day's website and you-tube peices. She has a wealth of information about setting up your machine and sewing area, and more. Good luck. Beautiful quilt!

Beautiful. For a slider. Go to walmart and get an oven liner. they are teflon coated and cheaper than the quilting sliders. good luck. i send my larger quilts out also!

I have never used minky so I don't know how it quilts, but i wouldn't do anything else without a walking foot and something slick under the quilt.
