I have OFTEN picked fabric being held by a person. They get their cut and then I get mine. You were right.

NOT SELFISH, JUST SMART, how many times have you seen there not be enough on the bolt to make that decision, I would have done the same if I was having a good day, sometimes in our efforts to please others we just dont THINK things all the way through! Good for you!

I agree with the others. You were not selfish; just defending your choice!

I would have asked the clerk to cut off the section I didn't need..to get me back to the section I wanted. They can make the uneeded part a remnant, if it's not at least a full yard. Their error.

I was waiting for my turn, and the sales person said I could put the bolt down while I was waiting. I started to look at the patterns next to me to kept me occupied. The lady having her stack of fabric cut said she would like so much of this. I wasn't looking (but thought she was still working on her stack) and she had taken "my" bolt and had them cut off some of it. When I realized what they had done, I looked at the fabric and the color had changed to a completely different color and if I wanted "my" color, I would have to buy 3X as much to get back to my color. Didn't even ask how much I wanted before she helped herself. What if I wanted the whole bolt? Told the cutter there wasn't enough now for what I wanted and left the store.

I have had the problem in the past of standing and waiting for my turn only to have someone attempt to step in ahead of me. When young I would have quietly allowed it, but now I gently stand my ground.

What in the world was she thinking, cutting the other lady's order ahead of yours? IGNORANT!

You were't selfish. The other customer was rude. The cutting clerk left a little to be desired too!

This is only a ball park estimate... Remember that the inside folds will be much shorter than the outside folds when the bolt is full...

I think the clerk was the one who was wrong. You were absolutely correct to ask that yours be cut first.
